Narrative and Its Relationship with Science Fiction

Abstract

This research examines the points of divergence and convergence between narrative and science fiction. The researcher investigates the interplay between real and imaginary (virtual) reality in narrative in general, and in the novel specifically. Prior to exploring the relationship between narrative and science fiction, the researcher sought to uncover the fundamental reasons and bases underlying the connection between these two distinct fields (imagination/fiction and science).

The research begins by tracing the concept of science fiction literature and distinguishing it from other modes of literary expression. The study's framework is built around the relationship between narrative and science fiction across five main sections. To substantiate its hypotheses, the study analyzed key narrative works in science fiction from both Western and Arab literary environments. The research concludes by addressing the complexities of science fiction narrative and highlights the most significant findings, which include:

(1) Mastering the interplay between two distinct fields (imagination and science) within narrative, revealing both the aesthetic dimension and the scientific hypothesis, has resulted in a creative genre suited to a changing environment (science fiction narrative).

(2)Science fiction narrative demonstrates the capacity to articulate fundamental human concerns in our current digital age, successfully generating distinct themes that revolve around questions of scientific facts in our reality and providing answers to those inquiries.

(3)For writers of this genre, the concept of science fiction narrative originates from the notion of (experimentation), exploring diverse horizons of human experience.
