The Semiotics of the Bird and the Nest "A Reading of the Diwan (The Abandoned Nest) by the Poet Mohsen Ali Yasser"

Abstract

Modern critical approaches read the creative texts from within their creative language; therefore، our study will examine the language of the diwan (The Abandoned Nest) from the perspective of the semiotic approach; since the language that shapes the literary text is what determines for the critical reader the features of the approach used to study it، and the texts of the diwan (The Abandoned Nest) are consistent according to a vision based on signs from the external cover of the diwan until its conclusion.

The nest is a symbol of the (homeland) place، and it is known that place is inseparable from time. The bird is a symbol of the (migrating poetic self). The poetry of the diwan struggles to end the migration from that nest so that it may turn green and come alive، but this migration can only be ended by reunion. The poetic self (the bird) refuses to return and be reunited except in a green time.

At the end of the study، the semiotics of the main sign opens up to internal sub-semiotics، leading to various significations in which the codes of interpretation open up at the level of the agency in that bird، that it is not the poet himself، but the bird of the beloved who flew away، taking the poetic being of the poet with him. That bird may be a signifier of a poetic entity that has departed with the departure of its female counterpart، or it may be a rain that greens the earth، or a reconstruction of a happy homeland، or a past political vision in a new and modern pattern، or the creation of a contemporary intellectual awareness. The important and most important thing is that it creates a beautiful time and a more beautiful place، as in our study. This temporal return is a progressive return، not a regressive one.

The creative language of the texts in the collection contributes to the delineation of the features of a reading methodology from the methods of modern criticism; to study them، as they point to this approach; because the nature of the read text itself determines for the critic the methodology of his reading - as we have mentioned before - according to the vision of modern criticism. From here، the role of the creative language of the texts of (The Abandoned Nest) is manifested in achieving the desired sustainability at the creative level، starting from the poetic language to the determination of the reading methodology."
